New free webinar

Replay available

Organised by the ESICM Feeding, Rehabilitation, Endocrinology & Metabolism (FREM) Section, this webinar will review the use of vitamin C in the intensive care unit and the general state of the art of vitamin interventions in the ICU.

Nurses, dietitians, nutritionists and physicians attending the webinar will get insights to improve their local protocols, while researchers will be introduced to the most significant research questions to be addressed.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand the physiological basis and epidemiological evidence suggesting a potential benefit of interventions based on the administration of high doses of vitamin C in the early stages of critical illness and the administration of other vitamins alone or in combination.
  • Gain an insight into the current situation based on clinical evidence from RCTs and what remains to be investigated and clarified.
  • Understand the pros and cons of early, generalised or targeted administration (standard commercial doses) of multivitamins and trace elements in critically ill patients who do not yet achieve full enteral intake.
