Mastering the Brain in Critical Conditions

Acute neurological disorders, such as traumatic brain injury or ischemic and haemorrhagic stroke, are amongst the most prevalent causes of death and disability worldwide. In addition, severe systemic insults such as sepsis or severe shock often affect the brain.

Caring for patients with critical neurological and neurosurgical conditions is challenging, and requires a unique set of skills. In this course, we offer an advanced training and educational program to manage neuro-critically ill patients.

The course will cover a broad spectrum of topics, including basic pathophysiological principles, traditional and novel diagnostic and monitoring tools, updated treatment strategies, and realistic clinical scenarios.

The MINIMAL Study

Use of Non-Invasive Methods for Intracranial Pressure (ICP) Monitoring in Traumatic Brain Injury when invasive ICP is not available (in Low income countries).

EURopean study on Encephalitis in intensive Care. This is a prospective observational multicentre study in European ICUs. All patients admitted to the ICU for probable or confirmed AE (2013 IDSA criteria) will be included.

The main aims of the project are to describe the epidemiology and outcomes of patients admitted to the ICU with all-cause acute (meningo-) encephalitis in European countries.
