WELCOME MESSAGE

ESICM LIVES 2019, 28 September - 2 October 2019, Berlin - CityCube

The countdown has begun to the most important calendar date for intensive care professionals across the globe, LIVES, which this year returns to the exciting and popular “City of Freedom”, Berlin.

This year we have reduced the amount of sessions to create more opportunities to interact - during the presentations, when debating and voting. This is not a congress where you will sit back and listen…We really do want delegates to question and to voice their views and opinions and to learn from each other!

As well as the varied and topical scientific programme of cutting-edge research and international expertise, we offer pre-congress learning and development and this year’s congress features some new and “quirky” opportunities:

  • “The Generation Connection”
Part of the Clinical Challenges Session, we would like to connect junior intensivists with senior practitioners. During this session, younger intensivists will present short, 10-minute presentations of a clinical case, followed by discussion and feedback animated by a more experienced member of the congress faculty.
  • “Breakfast with your idols”
  • Have you ever wanted to ask a well-known, international established intensivist and opinion leader a few questions, or find out how he/she would deal with a situation you may or may not have experienced?
Now you can… over breakfast. Small groups of participants will be given the opportunity to spend exclusive time with an “idol” of their choice. Pre-registration necessary.
  • “Meet the authors”
An opportunity to hear from the educators and authors of the educational learning materials on our eLearning Platform. This discussion will take place in the Arena.

Come and join the 6,000 intensive care professionals who come together each year for a remarkable three days of learning, sharing and networking, and where a warm welcome awaits you.

We hope you will join us in Berlin!

Prof. Jozef Kesecioglu
ESICM President
Prof. Armand Girbes
Chair, ESICM Division of Scientific Affairs

Review Process

The submitted abstracts have been examined anonymously by the ESICM Reviewers and ESICM Congress Committee. We thank the abstracts submitters and congratulate those selected. We also encourage the authors not selected to resubmit for the ESICM LIVES 2020 in Madrid.

We received 1395 abstracts. This year the quality of abstracts was very high but despite this we still had to reject 9% of the abstracts.

The authors have been informed of acceptance/rejection of their abstract by email on 14 June.

Presentation details have been sent on 26 July.

All abstracts selected for presentation at the Congress will be either presented as oral or e-poster presentation and will be published in the ICMx Journal.

The abstract submission system closed on 28 April 2019, 23:59 CET. This abstract receipt deadline will remain firm and any abstracts received after the deadline will not be accepted.

Abstract submitters have received an e-mail confirmation immediately after submitting their abstract. If you did not receive this e-mail, please contact the Abstract Department .

Abstract Reviewers

ESICM recognises and appreciates the important contributions of these busy specialists who offer their expertise and time to ensure that the programme for LIVES 2019 will not only meet, but surpass the scientific heights of past events.
