National coordination & experience in Italy

 

For the Covid-19 webinar on 19 March, we have invited two experienced scientists to present the latest data and situation in Milan and to discuss the national strategy in Italy and their own experience of dealing with this virus.

The experts:

Prof. Antonio PESENTI, MD, is Professor of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine in the Department of Pathophysiology and Transplantation, University of Milan and Head of Department of Anaesthesia and Emergency Medicine at the CA’ Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico Foundation, Milan.  He is the national coordinator of an ECMO network of 16 centres initiated by the Italian Health Ministry after the 2009 H1N1 pandemic.

Prof. Massimo ANTONELLI, MD, is Professor of Intensive Care and Anaesthesiology at the Universita Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Rome, and Director of the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care at the Fondazione Policlinico Universitario A Gemelli IRCCS.  Past President of the ESICM and former Editor-in-Chief of Intensive Care Medicine, he has published more than 300 papers.  His scientific fields of interest include Mechanical Ventilation, ARDS, Shock, Sepsis and Infections.

What can be learned from the current experience in Northern Italy? What lessons were learned after the 2009 H1N1 pandemic?  Can we prevent disease and how can we prepare for the next pandemic?
