The ESICM Art of Trauma Care Course aims to provide realistic and pragmatic trauma teaching based on most recent evidence. It focuses on recognizing and managing a severely injured patient in the resuscitation room and ICU over the first 48 hours, strategies for organ failure in trauma, non-technical skills, team-work, communication, decision-making under uncertainty, use of cognitive support, SOP, checklists, stress and cognitive load management

  • To review the principles of surgical and resuscitation damage control strategy (DCS)
  • To understand how to secure the airway in an unstable trauma patient
  • To learn the principles of early shock resuscitation and haemorrhage control
  • To recognise the immunologic response to severe trauma
  • To describe the management of penetrating trauma
  • To analyse the DCS principles in different traumatic injuries

  • Haemorrhage control: operation room or angiography suite

Accreditation

The The Art of Trauma Care, Barcelona, Spain 05/10/2024 – 06/10/2024, has been accredited by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME®) with 10.0 European CME credits (ECMEC®s). Each medical specialist should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.
Through an agreement between the Union Européenne des Médecins Spécialistes and the American Medical Association, physicians may convert EACCME® credits to an equivalent number of AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Information on the process to convert EACCME® credit to AMA credit can be found at https://edhub.ama-assn.org/pages/applications .
Live educational activities, occurring outside of Canada, recognised by the UEMS-EACCME® for ECMEC®s are deemed to be Accredited Group Learning Activities (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

2022

We just concluded our e-Master Class on the Art of Trauma Care, with 11 experts & 67 participants from 23 countries. Special guests, our colleagues from Ukraine!

Among the sessions, we also focused on the treatment of war injury with the support of a military doctor.

Despite the uncertain context, the third edition of The Art of Trauma Care Master Class has just wrapped up, this time virtually! A total of 10 experts and 69 participants from 22 countries engaged in interactive activities and case-based discussions.

The 2nd edition of The Art of Trauma Care Master Class has just wrapped up. A total of 13 experts and 50 participants from 17 countries came together for 2 days at the ESICM Training Centre in Brussels. Here are some of their comments on what they liked best about their experience:

The 1st edition of The Art of Trauma Care Master Class has just wrapped up. A total of 13 experts and 51 participants from 17 countries came together for 2 days at the ESICM Training Centre in Brussels. Here are some of their comments on what they liked best about their experience:

  • Great pedagogic strategy! Thank you for breaking the rules 🙂 Clinical case scenarios where very useful, the brainstorming, teambuilding and decision-making training were the best of it.
