Anaesthesia & Peri-operative Medicine

Mission

The Anesthesia and Peri-operative Medicine (APM) section focuses on:

  • preoperative risk assessment,
  • intraoperative management of high-risk and critically ill patients,
  • prevention and management of intraoperative complications,
  • prevention and management of postoperative complications,
  • perioperative pain management,
  • and monitoring high-risk patients until full recovery.

The aim of the section is to bridge the gap between critical care and anesthesiology in order to improve pre-, intra-, and postoperative management and reduce perioperative complications. The section emphasizes patient-centered care, guides clinical practice, and fosters research on tailored anesthesia approaches in different clinical settings, including their interaction with cardiovascular, respiratory, neurological, and renal function.

The last APM Section meeting took place on Tuesday, October 28th at the International Congress Centre of Munich.
