Acute Kidney Injury
The Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) section is devoted to research and educational activities in the field of acute kidney injury and related issues. Its final goals are the improvement of knowledge of all aspects of pathophysiology, prevention and treatment of AKI in critically ill patients, as well as enhanced education to improve knowledge and outcomes of this syndrome affecting about 30% of patients treated in the ICU. The recently published Clinical practice guideline on diagnosis and treatment of hyponatraemia (Intensive Care Medicine 2014) and the recommendation on Prevention of acute kidney injury and protection of renal function in the intensive care unit (Intensive Care Medicine 2010) are examples of the section’s educational activities.
