Mission

The Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) section is devoted to research and educational activities in the field of acute kidney injury and related issues.
The main goals of the AKI section are the improvement of knowledge of all aspects of pathophysiology, prevention and treatment of AKI in critically ill patients, as well as enhanced education to improve knowledge and outcomes of this syndrome affecting about 50% of patients treated in the ICU.

Recent examples of the scientific and educational activities of the section are the consensus papers on Prevention of acute kidney injury and protection of renal function in the intensive care unit: update 2017 (Intensive Care Medicine 2017), and the Clinical practice guideline on diagnosis and treatment of hyponatraemia (Intensive Care Medicine 2014).

All ESICM members interested in this field are very welcome to participate in the activities of our section and join our group. For further information please contact the Chair Marlies Ostermann or the Deputy Chair Antoine Schneider.

Due to the exceptional situation we are facing because of the Covid-19 outbreak and the travel restrictions in place, all face-to-face Section meetings in March 2020 have been cancelled.

The next face to face meeting will take place at LIVES 2020 in Madrid (5-9 December 2020).
