Format: Pre-congress course, LIVES 2024 (Barcelona, Spain)
Dates: 05-06 October 2024
The ESICM Advanced Course in Intensive Care Echocardiography (EDEC) is designed for intensivists who have achieved a basic level of education and training in the use of echocardiography in an intensive care setting and would like to obtain advanced knowledge and certification of their competency.
This course is not included in the fee for the EDEC Diploma
Faculty
Director:
Philippe VIGNON MD PhD Medical-surgical Intensive Care Unit, Dupuytren Teaching Hospital, Limoges, France
Key Reasons to Attend
- This interactive course is led by international experts in echocardiography
- With this course, you can collect 12 of the 40 points of advanced courses to be collected before sitting the evaluation tests for EDEC. Check all the requirements (webinars, EDEC logbook etc.) here.
Objectives
- To analyze the potential use of Critical Care Echocardiography (CCE)
- To appraise the different views of interest using transesophageal echocardiography (TEE)
- To outline the main parameters of left ventricular (LV) systolic function used on clinical grounds
- To integrate the main parameters of LV systolic function into clinical practice.
- To interpret the clinical value of ‘static’ parameters to evaluate fluids requirement
- To illustrate the prediction of fluid responsiveness using ‘dynamic’ parameters
- To integrate the parameters of right ventricular (RV) systolic function and the assessment of pulmonary artery pressure
- To illustrate the use of these parameters in clinical practice.
- To outline the EDEC Diploma process
- To evaluate the severity of an aortic valve disease for a non-cardiologist
- To evaluate the severity of a mitral valve disease for a non-cardiologist
- To illustrate the steps required for the assessment of patients with infective endocarditis
- To assess a clinical case illustrating the assessment of fluid responsiveness in an ARDS patient.
- To analyze the findings associated with pericardial effusion / tamponade
- To analyze the findings associated with acute aortic dissection
- To illustrate the main pitfalls and mimickers (normal anatomical structures, artifacts)
- To appraise a clinical case by illustrating the assessment of RV function in an ARDS patient under protective ventilation.
Programme Content
- Provides training in a spectrum of echocardiographic techniques and skills (image acquisition, image interpretation and clinical integration) that extend the competencies required for basic critical care echocardiography
- Relies on qualitative and quantitative assessment of cardiac structure and function, with particular emphasis on haemodynamic monitoring and titration of care in the critically ill
Target
- Intensivists who have achieved a basic level of education and training in the use of echocardiography in an intensive care setting
- Specialists who would like to obtain an advanced knowledge and certification of their competency (European Diploma in critical care Echocardiography (EDEC))
Accreditation
An application will be made to the UEMS EACCME® for CME accreditation of this event.
