ESICM solidarity statement for all people impacted by the war in Israel and Gaza

As the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM), we are profoundly saddened by the injuries to civilians and the dramatic number of lives lost to death in the ongoing war in Israel and Gaza. In times of conflict, the medical community plays a crucial role in delivering care and saving lives. We extend our support to all healthcare professionals of the Israeli Society of Intensive Care Medicine, which includes several of our members, and to healthcare professionals in Gaza during these challenging times.

The Geneva Conventions and International Humanitarian Law (IHL), which guarantee medical neutrality during a conflict and protect healthcare, the sick and wounded, health services and personnel, must be fully respected. Our thoughts are with all those affected by the current strife in the region, and we hope for a swift path to peace and stability.

We are living through very difficult and uncertain times. Our society’s commitment is to humanitarian values and the well-being of all individuals, whoever and wherever they are. This commitment is unwavering. We, as ESICM, stand with all healthcare professionals worldwide, striving to provide medical assistance and the best possible care to those affected by the ongoing conflict.
