The main role of the Division of Scientific Affairs is to represent ESICM in the intensive care community, advance and develop ESICM's scientific activities in relation to its Annual Congress, and foster research. – the preparation and presentation of the ESICM Annual Congress
– coordinating the proposals and activities of the sections and their research groups
– the scientific design and content of meetings organised jointly with other associations, such as LIVES Forums.

The Research Committee is in charge of coordinating or advising on all the research activities of the Society. It is responsible for the ESICM Research, Industry Awards and the ESICM Trials Group.
The Systematic Review Group is composed of:
