ESICM Research Awards 2021: Clinical Research Award
Hear from our past awardees
The ESICM Research Awards are funded to enable both young and established investigators and clinicians to carry out basic or clinical research projects and develop, acquire, and apply advanced research procedures and techniques in the area of intensive care medicine.
Each week, some of our past ESICM Research Awards recipients will provide more information and details about their research projects and the single awards.
Shirin K Frisvold is an anesthesiologist and chief physician of the Department of Intensive care medicine, at the University Hospital of North Norway, in Tromsø (NO) and an ESICM member since 2010.
In 2018, she received the ESICM Clinical Research Award, for the intervention study Brain-Vent on the relation between lung-protective ventilation, intracranial pressure, autoregulation and brain oxygenation in neurointensive care patients. For this study, she mainly collaborates with Dr Peter Smielewski´s group, University of Cambridge (UK) and Prof Guerin, University of Lyon (FR).
The ESICM Clinical Research Award supports research projects to be performed in a clinical environment. Some aspects of the proposal may involve collaboration with research laboratories. However, applications that lack a clinical component will not be considered. Proposals may be based on approaches ranging from physiology, diagnostic procedures, therapeutic interventions, to epidemiologic studies and evaluation of practices.
