In memoriam

The European Society of Intensive Care Medicine mourns the death of J. Randall Curtis (Randy), M.D., M.P.H., the director of the Cambia Palliative Care Center of Excellence at UW Medicine and the UW’s A. Bruce Montgomery-American Lung Association Endowed Chair in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine.

Randy has been a wonderful friend, ESICM member, teacher, researcher, mentor and role model in the field of intensive care medicine. His contributions to the fields of palliative care, end-of-life care in the ICU and ethics overall will remain unparalleled. Randy has allowed so many family members to be better welcomed in the ICU and so many vulnerable relatives to receive improved communication; his actions and research will serve family interests forever.

Randy will always stay loved and remembered.
