Rehabilitation & PICS

Mission

We are a multidisciplinary and interprofessional section. The mission of the Rehabilitation & PICS Section is to improve recovery and long-term outcomes for patients and families affected by critical illness. We concentrate on the entire process from ICU admission to long-term follow-up, with a focus on early rehabilitation, neuromuscular and cognitive recovery, functional outcomes, psychosocial health, and Post-Intensive Care Syndrome in patients and families (PICS-F).
We aim to promote high-quality collaborative research, support evidence-based rehabilitation models, strengthen multidisciplinary and interprofessional education, and foster innovation in follow-up care and survivorship support – working closely with other ESICM Sections and the N-AHP and NEXT committees.

Engagement & Collaboration

We are diverse and inclusive, integrating early-career professionals and a broad range of disciplines (intensivists, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, speech-language therapists, and other rehabilitation professionals).
