7th Digital Critical Care Datathon,

January 10 – February 7, 2025

This 7th Critical Care Datathon is a great event where multidisciplinary teams and international experts collaborate to explore clinical questions using large datasets from electronic health records. 
Participants also have the opportunity to enhance their data knowledge, discover new methods to address clinical questions, and build connections! 

This edition will be held online from January 10th to 31st and the top three teams will be invited to present their work at the Grand Finale during the Intensive Care Innovation Forum on February 7th in Milan.

They will be honored with the opportunity to present their findings during a dedicated session – also broadcasted worldwide on LIVES-STREAM, amplifying their impact on the global intensive care community.

Participants

12 teams (Maximum number of participants per team is 12)

  • Application is possible as a team or as an individual participant. Individuals will be assigned to a team.
    Each participant shoud have a working google account (gmail).
  • Each team should have at least one person skilled in Intensive care medicine, machine learning or advanced statistical modelling, SQL and python or R.
  • All teams should write an abstract of their work before the second Progress Session.

Clinicians in critical care, anesthesia or emergency medicine, data scientists, engineers, statisticians, policymakers and innovators. Not only established professionals, we welcome residents, student and trainees with a background in one of the above fields to participate!

Discussion and support after each presentation

January 31, 2025 : Progress session 2 (only for participants)

After this session, the best 3 teams will be selected for the Grand Finale

February 7, 2025 : Grand Finale live from the Intensive Care Innovation Forum in Milan as a worldwide free viewing stream on LIVES-STREAM.

Process

AmsterdamUMCdb will be used as the database

  • Access will be through Big Query on the Google Cloud Platform.
  • Coding is on Google Colab Notebooks using Python.
  • R is possible but support will be limited.

The AmsterdamUMCdb github will provide a tutorial and a FAQ.

  • Application is possible as a team or as an individual participant. Individuals will be assigned to a team.
  • Each team should have at least one person skilled in Intensive care medicine, machine learning or advanced statistical modelling, SQL and python or R.
  • All teams should write an abstract of their work before the second Progress Session.

Slack will be used to provide support

Encourage participants to raise Github issues for support questions of general interest

On January 31st, the three best teams will be announced. One representative of each will present in person at the Grand Final during Innovative Care Forum in Milan. ESICM grant for travel and accommodation (Up to 1,000 € based on supporting documents)

On February 7th Winners’ order will be determined by Jury + onsite voting + online voting
