The Transforming Patient Pathway, Workflow & Outcome learning pathway is a new educational grant covering the itinerary of a surgical patient from hospital admission, pre-surgical care, surgery, postoperative and ICU care, to discharge and home monitoring.

It aims to facilitate understanding on how we can help improve patient outcome throughout their itinerary from admission to discharge through continuous and remote monitoring, and how we can transform patient pathway to cope with current challenges of surge capacity, healthcare professionals’ fatigue and shortage of OR/ICU nurse.

Programme Content

•This hybrid training programme allows participants to acquire, apply and integrate knowledge and skills through a series of learning components that boost progressive learning. The programme includes:

 

  1. Kick-off webinar

Date: March 26, 2024
Time: at 16:00 h Central European Time -CET

  1. A series of 3 LIVE virtual sessions

LIVE virtual session 1:Elective high risk and emergency surgeries requiring ICU
Date: April 30, 2024
Time: 14:00 – 17:00 h CEST

LIVE virtual session 2:Optimising ICU stay
Date: May 28, 2024
Time: 14:00 – 17:00 h CEST

LIVE virtual session 3: Discharge to ward and beyond
Date: June 25, 2024
Time: 14:00 – 17:00 h CEST

Certificates with CME credits will be issued for those who either attend live or watch the recordings and complete the related quizzes. 

 

  1. Fellowships.
    Fellowships aim to immerse fellows in real-life settings where they can learn directly from their experts. Such activities will support the individual continuous professional development but also transfer of best practices to fellows’ ICUs back home.
    A total of 25 fellowships will be conducted in centres around Europe. Fellowship-related costs (accommodation and travel) up to 1000 EUR/fellow will be reimbursed by ESICM.Eligibility and applications for fellowships:
    Applications open to participants from any professional background
    Must be a member of the ESICM(so join up now if not already a member!)
    Fellowships will be awarded on basis of application, attendance at all the 3 LIVE virtual sessions and highest performance in the quizzes.

  1. Clinical case-based workshop

A clinical case-based workshop will be organised at LIVES 2024 in Barcelona covering the itinerary of a surgical patient from hospital admission, pre-surgical care, surgery, postoperative and ICU care, to discharge and home monitoring. Certificates with CME credits will be issued for those who attend the workshop at LIVES. 

The 10 top scoring participants in the workshop (on the condition they completed the previous learning components) will receive an award of 500 EUR each (for travel and accommodation) to support their participation to the follow up face to face course to be held in 2025 in Brussels (see point 6).

 

  1. Networking event

Programme participants and experts are invited to join the lunch networking event at LIVES 2024 in Barcelona to share their feedback on the programme and how the programme impacts their clinical performance.

 

  1. Follow-up face to face course

It aims at consolidating the fundamentals of the programme and proposing concrete actions to help participants improve their clinical performance

Date: April 8-9, 2025
Venue: ESICM Training Centre in Brussels in 2025 with a maximum of 50 free entries to attend the course
Entry: free of charge for programme participants

 

Additionally the 10 top scoring participants in the Clinical case-based workshop at LIVES 2024 in Barcelona will receive an award of 500 EUR each (for travel and accommodation) to support their participation to the course.

Target

The programme targets clinical teams involved in the management of the surgical patient.
