While the pandemic appeared to subsiding in several high-income countries due to stringent control measures and effective vaccination campaigns, many low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) and their health systems continued to face significant challenges with the care of critically ill patients infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
The COVID-19 ALIVE course was a unique learning opportunity, structured and comprehensive addressing COVID-19 in critically ill patients in LMICs. In this course, evidence-based recommendations, as well as practical experiences and direction with the critical care management of COVID-19 patients, were shared and made freely available for all health care workers around the globe. The course content specifically addressed many common issues faced when caring for critically ill COVID-19 patients in LMICs. Speakers from around the world shared their experiences and covered pertinent and key topics related to relevant aspects of the care of such patients.
