The haemodynamic monitoring pathway for NEXT supported the NEXT generation of intensivists in their efforts of continuous professional development, undertaken to provide appropriate care to their patients. Participants benefitted from an innovative learning experience, which helped them to develop both their knowledge and skills on Haemodynamic Monitoring.

Programme

Part 1: Live Event 

  • Date: September 11-12, 2023.
  • Venue: ESICM Headquarters, Brussels, Belgium
  • Format: Hybrid. The participants were given the opportunity to choose upon registration whether they want to join face-to-face or connect remotely.
    A total of 50 participants were selected to attend the course face-to-face in Brussels. Their free entry is supported by EDWARDS.
    The rest of participants registered were invited to connect remotely to the event.
  • Programme: it covered basics of physiology, variables and how to interpret them, haemodynamic monitoring, fluid and drug therapy, technical solutions and monitoring devices

Part 2: Practical workshop 

  • Date: October 23-25, 2023
  • Venue: ESICM Congress, Milan, Italy
  • The 25 best-scoring participants received a FREE ENTRY to LIVES in Milan (October 21-25, 2023) and to the practical workshop on Haemodynamics to be repeated during the congress from October 23 to October 25, 2023.Their free entry is supported by EDWARDS.

Part 3: Fellowship

  • A total of 25 fellowships are being conducted in centres around Europe, giving fellows the opportunity to experience haemodynamic monitoring in real-life settings and learn directly from experts. Fellowship-related costs (accommodation and travel) up to 1,000 EUR/fellow are reimbursed by ESICM.
  • Eligibility and applications for fellowships:
    1. Applications open ONLY to NEXT (junior doctors, ≤ 37 years old) 
    2. Must be a member of the ESICM 
    3. Open to European and International NEXT members
    4. Fellowships will be awarded on the basis of application, attendance to the live event and highest performance in the quizz.

To apply for the NEXT Haemodynamic Monitoring Pathway, you should:

  • be an ESICM member
  • be a junior intensivist ≤ 37 years old
  • look to improve your knowledge and skills
Certification

The Haemodynamic Monitoring for Next face-to-face course (Brussels, Belgium, 11/09/2023-12/09/2023) has been accredited by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME®) for a maximum of 8 European CME credits (ECMEC®s).
