Great minds think alike…
The central theme of this #neuro session chaired by Peter LeRoux (Philadelphia, United States) and Geert Meyfroidt (Leuven, Belgium) is the transatlantic collaboration, which has led to joint initiatives to publish guidelines that have been developed, endorsed and approved by the two leading societies/sections in the field of neurocritical care.
ESICM and the Neurocritical Care Society (NCS) have teamed up a number of times in recent years to create practical clinical guidelines, based on the available scientific evidence, to help clinicians around the globe in treating neurocritically ill patients. This strong collaboration is not a thing of the past, as this group of neuro-specialists are currently working together and will continue working together in the future on developing and updating guidelines designed to guide neurocritical care.

This joint session is well balanced, with two presentations on guidelines that are currently being developed or planned (ICH = intracerebral haemorrhage and fluid management in brain injured patients); two talks that update on the recent joint consensus conferences on multimodality monitoring and subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) and finally, two important presentations that follow up on recent guidelines developed by the societies separately.
