Support the World-Wide Pressure Injury Prevention Day
This year’s World-Wide Pressure Injury Prevention Day will be marked on Thursday, 21 November 2019.
A pressure injury seriously affects quality of life and the main objective of the World Wide Pressure Injury Prevention Day is to increase awareness of pressure injury prevention and help to educate the public.
The European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (EPUAP) applauds the efforts of such events to bring pressure ulcer awarness to professionals, politicians and the general public.
ESICM has actively supported research into the prevention of pressure ulcers, including its recent endorsement of DecubICUs, a multi-centre international one-day prevalence study on pressure ulcers in intensive care units.
This study aims to provide an up-to-date, global picture of the extent and patterns of pressure injuries in ICUs. 13,254 patients were enrolled in 1,118 centres in 90 different countries in all continents. Data collection is now closed and the study is to be published shortly.
You too can help raise awareness of pressure ulcers this month, to a wider audience, and get involved by:
- Hosting educational activities on the prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers
- Organising awareness raising events to share information about pressure ulcers
- Reaching out to your local community to inform them about pressure ulcers
- Making policy-makers aware of pressure ulcers
- Joining the Stop Pressure Ulcers community on social media
An information pack containing materials appropriate for all healthcare settings and organisations is available here.
Printable flyers in several different languages can also be downloaded from the EPUAP website, here.
For further information, watch the ESICM archived webinar that promotes worldwide pressure injury prevention and reinforces the relationship between national and local societies in raising awareness about this serious issue in ICUs around the globe.
