Advanced Course in Intensive Care Nephrology (ICN) – Beyond Basic
This one and a half day course is developed in collaboration between ESICM and the BASIC group. The course has several components: Pre and post course MCQ tests, a course manual, structured lectures and skill stations. The course level is set to fit the experienced trainees in intensive care, but can also be of interest as a refresher course.
The course covers following topics in a mixture of didactic lectures and hands-on/skill-stations:
- AKI epidemiology and outcome,
- AKI definitions staging and diagnosis,
- Anatomy and physiology,
- Chronic renal failure,
- Rhabdomyolysis and AKI,
- Sepsis and AKI,
- Urosepsis,
- Urolithiasis,
- Drug dosing in AKI,
- Continous renal replacement therapy,
- Intermittent haemodialysis, and
- Peritoneal dialysis.
The course instructors are all experienced intensivists and have previously taught the course: Francesca Rubulotta, Pascale Gruber, Hans Flaatten, Lui Forni, Doris Doberenz, Marlies Ostermann and Ivan Hayes.
