Management of primary spontaneous pneumothorax in the ICU

An international online survey endorsed by ESICM

Primary spontaneous pneumothorax (PSP) is a frequent disease mainly involving young patients. In many countries, intensivists are in the first line for the management of patients with PSP. PSP management varies among countries, institutions and even among physicians within the same institution.

The results of this survey will fill gaps in knowledge and pave the way for further research aiming at improving the management of patients with PSP. The aim is to highlight the wide variations in primary spontaneous pneumothorax management and to assess the intensivist’s knowledge on international guidelines. The ultimate goal is to standardise our practice in order to reduce the hospitalisation rate and the duration of hospitalisation of patients managed for PCP, as well as unnecessary painful procedures in these young active healthy patients.

The online survey contents 30 questions and takes approximately 8 minutes to complete.
