ORIGINAL ~ Severe hypercapnia and outcome of mechanically ventilated patients with ARDS
Nin et al. Severe hypercapnia and outcome of mechanically ventilated patients with moderate or severe acute respiratory distress syndrome. Investigators analysed data on patients with ARDS from more than 900 ICUs in 40 countries to determine the relationship between hypercapnia developing within the ?rst 48 hours after the start of mechanical ventilation and outcome.
ORIGINAL ~ Respiratory management of acute viral bronchiolitis in young infants: the TRAMONTANE study
Milési et al. High flow nasal cannula (HFNC) versus nasal continuous positive airway pressure (nCPAP) for the initial respiratory management of acute viral bronchiolitis in young infants: a multicentre randomised controlled trial (TRAMONTANE study). This randomised controlled trial performed in five PICUs, compared the efficacy and safety of nCPAP and HFNC for respiratory support in infants with moderate to severe acute viral bronchiolitis.
ORIGINAL ~ Predicting NIV failure in hypoxemic patients: the HACOR score
Duan et al. Assessment of heart rate, acidosis, consciousness, oxygenation, and respiratory rate to predict noninvasive ventilation failure in hypoxemic patients. This study utilised a test cohort comprised of 449 patients with hypoxemia who were receiving NIV to develop and validate the HACOR (heart rate, acidosis, consciousness, oxygenation, and respiratory rate) to predict NIV failure, de?ned as need for intubation after NIV intervention.
