This paper by Hjortrup et al. Restricting volumes of resuscitation fluid in septic shock after the initial management – the CLASSIC randomised, parallel-group, multicentre feasibility trial, details results originally presented at ESICM's annual congress LIVES 2016  on restricting volumes of resuscitation fluid in patients with septic shock.

ORIGINAL ~ NAVA as an alternative to pressure support ventilation
    
This study, Demoule et al. Neurally Adjusted Ventilatory Assist as an alternative to Pressure Support Ventilation – A multicentre randomised trial, is the first sizeable RCT to compare NAVA with pressure support ventilation (PSV) in adults weaning from invasive mechanical ventilation after acute respiratory failure. Results from this study were first presented at LIVES 2016 in October.

ORIGINAL ~ IRON supplementation in ICU patients: The IRONMAN Trial 
    
Litton et al. Intravenous Iron or Placebo for Anaemia in Intensive Care: The IRONMAN randomised controlled trial. The authors investigated intravenous (IV) iron supplementation as a viable strategic option to decrease the severity of anemia and the incidence of RBC transfusion in non-critically ill patients.
