Top Speakers kick off Opening Session at LIVES 2014
The Opening Session of LIVES 2014, ESICM's 27th Annual Congress will open on Sunday, September 28th with topical, thought-provoking presentations by well-known presenters from the field of intensive care and beyond.
AVIVAH WITTENBERG-COX ~ The real challenge of retaining and promoting women? Leadership
An Internationally-known expert on gender balance, Avivah Wittenberg-Cox frequently speaks on leadership, marketing and talent management issues across the globe. She is also a guest lecturer at leading business schools, writes a blog for Harvard Business Review and was the first female columnist of Der Spiegel’s Manager Magazine. Her company, 20-first works with organisations interested in gender balancing their leadership teams and optimising the talent pool. Her presentation promises to be a thought-provoking highlight to the opening session line-up.
JUKKA TAKALA ~ Going with the blood flow - insights into regional circulation in the critically ill
Honoured with the ESICM Society Medal, Jukka Takala is one of the most respected leaders in intensive care medicine. Since 1999 he has served as Director and Chief Physician of the Department of Critical Care Medicine and Professor in Intensive Care Medicine at the University of Bern. He is also Chair of the Department of Intensive Care, Emergency Medicine and Anaesthesiology (DINA) of the Inselspital.
DEREK ANGUS ~ Clinical trials in the ICU: The next generation
Founder and Director of CRISMA (Clinical Research, Investigation, and Systems Modeling of Acute Illnesses) Center, regarded by many as one of the world’s foremost translational research groups, Derek Angus is also Professor and Chair of the Department of Critical Care Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. He holds secondary appointments in Medicine, Health Policy and Management, and Clinical and Translational Science. He has published several hundred papers, reviews, and book chapters, is currently section editor for “Caring for the Critically Ill” for JAMA. He is the recipient of numerous prestigious awards in intensive care medicine.
The session will conclude with Congress Committee Chair Jozef Kesecioglu detailing the highlights of the 27th annual congress and closing remarks by incoming ESICM President Daniel De Backer.
