Health services research and outcome (HSRO)
Aims and Missions
The Section on Health Services Research and Outcome (formerly Section on Outcome Evaluation) is, since its foundation, dedicated to outcome research–to developing tools that might help in improving the quality of our work and, thus, the outcome of our patients.
Chair and deputy
Chair Andreas Valentin - Vienna, Austria
Deputy Akos Csomos - Budapest, Hungary
Membership
Before starting the ESICM Congress in Barcelona, there were 800 members registered in the Section. All ESICM members interested in the activities of the Section are invited to join the HSRO Section as members.
Please note that only the voting members of the Section may elect the chair and the deputy. Do you wish to be one of the members of this Section or do you wish to change your Section registration? Please send an email to ESICM Membership Dept.

Activities
According to the rules of the Society, the section members present their proposals and their views to Congress Committee and Research Committee through the chair and the deputy of the Section.
Three Working Groups responsible for specific research activities pertain to the section.
The Working Groups are involved in the following activities:
- Researches, as the SAPS 3 project, the SEE studies and the ICUFUND survey already performed, and the following future studies planned for the next year:
- WorkDoc (about the workload of intensive care in Europe, with Rui Moreno as leader),
- ELOISE (European Length Of ICU Stay Evaluation), having Didier Ledoux as head of both the project and the WG of Health Economics;
- Development of shared “Recommendations for basic requirements for Intensive Care Units – structural and organisational aspects” by the WG of Quality Improvement, head by Andreas Valentin.
We encourage you to participate in the meetings of Section and WGs, and will be delighted to welcome you both in Brussels and in Berlin next year.
Maurizia Capuzzo
