THE ESICM COOPERATES WITH THE EU AUTHORITIES

The statutory purpose of the  UEMS or EUMS (European Union of Medical Specialists) is the harmonization and improvement of the quality of medical specialist practice in the European Union (EU).

The UEMS was created in 1958 and Specialist Sections for each of the main disciplines practised in the member States were created from 1962. These groups of experts, composed of representatives of the national associations of the specialty concerned, carry out a considerable amount of work with the idea of coordinating, then harmonizing the specialist trainings and the criteria for the recognition of medical specialists.

The UEMS and its Sections develop their action in constant cooperation with the Standing Committee of European Doctors, created in 1959 and bringing together the whole of the organized medical profession of the member States
