BASIC
The BASIC course (Basic Assessment and Support in Intensive Care) is a course concept ESICM has endorsed, which was originally developed by the Chinese University of Hong Kong (see http://www.aic.cuhk.edu.hk/web8/BASIC.htm). It is a pure introduction course, intended for beginners in intensive care medicine.
The course is has been very well developed with a written course book (can also be provided in PDF format for free), and is run in a standardised way with short tutorials and skill stations. All tutorials are freely available for course providers, and must be used as they are (in order to ensure equivalent content from course to course).
There is also pre-and post-course test with MCQs and a pre-made web-platform to use for participants.
ESICM primarily utilises this course to educate instructors and providers at national levels, a successful practice which began in Summer 2010 in Dublin in cooperation with the Irish Society of Intensive Care.
