The Division of Professional Development (DPD)
Is in charge of advancing the Society's activities with respect to Education, Training and Publishing. It is responsible for the journal Intensive Care Medicine, to develop a comprehensive curriculum and training in intensive care medicine, as well as promoting a European-wide competency based training programme. It will continue developing the postgraduate board exam (European Diploma in Intensive Care, EDIC).
The Division of Professional Development is composed of:
- The Education and Training Committee with
- The EDIC subcommittee
- The PACT subcommittee
- The Training subcommittee
- The Editorial and Publishing Committee
The Education and Training Committee
Is led by Hans Flaatten (Bergen, Norway). The Chairperson of the Education and Training Committee is also the Chairperson of the Division of Professional Development.
The members of the Education and Training Committee are:
- The Chairperson of the Division of Professional Development (Chairperson of the Committee)
- The chairperson of the congress committee
- One representative from the N&AHP Committee
- The Chairpersons from the three subcommittees: EDIC, PACT and Training
- Ex officio other committee chairs, Council members and co-opted members approved by the Executive Committee.
Aims and Missions
The Education and Training Committee is in charge of developing and promoting the educational and training strategy of the ESICM and to effect the associated operational tasks. This entails coordinating the efficient and effective work of the EDIC and PACT subcommittees. The Committee also has a role in advising on the educational activities within the Society generally and specifically. This includes advice to the Congress Committee, on the educational and competency tracks of the Annual Congress and it has a role in supporting the development of the CoBaTrICE project. Education and training initiatives may require considerable adjustment to allow compatibility with national and European regulations relating to training, accreditation and continuing professional development in intensive care medicine.
EDIC Subcommittee
Composition
The examination (EDIC) subcommittee consists of
- An elected chairperson
- And up to 9 elected members.
Aims and Missions
The EDIC committee is responsible for the proceeding of the EDIC 1 and 2 exams.
PACT Subcommittee
Composition
The PACT editorial board consists of
- An elected Editor
- And an elected editorial board of up to 10 sub-editors.
Aims and Missions
To maintain and further develop the PACT modules as the ESICM electronic learning interface.
Training Subcommittee
Composition
The committee consists of
- A Chairperson
- And up to nine elected members.
Aims and Missions
To develop, maintain and promote training programmes for intensive care medicine.
The Editorial and Publishing Committee
Is led by Christian Putensen (Bonn, Germany). The Chairperson of the Editorial and Publishing Committee is also the Deputy Chairman of the Division of Professional Development. He is also the ESICM ex officio member of the Board of Editors of the journal Intensive Care Medicine.
The members of the ESICM Editorial and Publishing Committee are:
- Chairperson of the Editorial and Publishing Committee
- One nominated representative of the Journal’s Board of Editors
- One representative of the Education and Training Committee
- One representative of the Congress Committee
- One representative of the Research Committee
- The Chairperson of the Congress Committee
- One representative of the N&AHP Committee
- Ex officio other committee Chairs, Council members, co-opted members approved by Executive Committee, or ESICM Officers.
Aims and Missions
The Editorial and Publishing Committee objectives includes a need to maintain the highest level of scientific standards by maintaining the collaboration of high quality peer reviewers, by liaising with the Research Committee and the Congress Manager, and by developing novel publishing approaches in the journal Intensive Care Medicine and in any new Society publications. To achieve these objectives, the Editorial and Publishing Committee needs to:
- Interact with the journal Intensive Care Medicine Board of Editors and represent ESICM views on global journal goals and means of achievement
- Interact with the journal Editor-in-Chief on ESICM position statements or standard documents (Consensus conferences reports, Guidelines and Recommendations)
- Interact with other associations in promoting ESICM views in any publication related to the Society actions and statements.
The Editorial and Publishing Committee is also taking care of the ESICM Newsletters and the website. |
