Continuing Medical Education / EACCME The 21st ESICM Annual Congress will be accredited by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME) to provide CME activity for medical specialists. The EACCME is an institution of the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS).
The EACCME will granted European CME credits (ECMEC) to the pre-congress Postgraduate courses (credits for one-day or two-day courses).
Each medical specialist should claim only hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.
EACCME credits are recognised by the American Medical Association towards the Physician's Recognition Award (PRA). To convert EACCME credit to AMA PRA Category 1 credit, contact the AMA.
Continuing Professional Development sessions The ESICM Education and Training Committee has set up, with the collaboration of the Congress Committee, a full educational track (10 sessions) throughout the congress. This programme is an excellent preparation for sitting the European Diploma in Intensive Care (EDIC) written examination that will take place on Monday 22 September 2008, 08.00-11.00.
Competency Training sessions The ESICM Congress Committee organises Competency training sessions. These sessions are 30-min training sessions on "How do I .......?". Speakers and chairpersons are outstanding experts in their field willing to share practical experience with physicians and nurses. Interaction among the speakers and the audience is strongly encouraged.
Clinical Challenges Sessions Based on a clinical case, two speakers will exchange views about the management of the clinical situation as it evolves. Interaction between the speakers and the audience is strongly encouraged.
PACT sessions and PACT-based Stimulation Workshops There will be some PACT-based sessions during the 21st Annual Congress in Lisbon and a 3-day programme of PACT-based Simulation Workshops organised in conjunction with SAInT and METI. The programme of these sessions will be posted in 2008.
