THE ESICM EUROPEAN REGISTRY IN INTENSIVE CARE: ERIC
We are asking all intensive care clinicians, doctors, nurses and allied health professionals, to provide limited information about their intensive care unit and hospital, as the basis for a database on international intensive care structures and organisation. We know that there are substantial variations in intensive care facilities between countries, and that these variations may influence clinical care and outcomes. There is no reliable and comprehensive source of information about intensive care in Europe: we do not even know how many ICUs there are, or how many critically ill patients are treated each year. This limits our ability to compete for research resources, or discharge our educational responsibilities effectively within the European Community. The Registry will help us do that. Importantly, it will also facilitate electronic communication between members and allow us to obtain and represent the views of the intensive care community more accurately.
We are currently working on the format of the registry and will soon open it up again to allow you to enter your information.
