Cardiovascular dynamics (CD)
Aims and Missions
The Section on Cardiovascular dynamics aims to encourage research, training and education into acute circulatory dysfunction and cardiac failure. We take an active role in the design of the scientific programme for our Annual Congress and also aim to provide postgraduate education at each annual congress through the sponsorship and supervision of one of the postgraduate courses.
Chair and deputy

Activities
In Berlin this year we had thematic sessions on recent advances in cardiology, right heart function and failure, new monitoring techniques and the cardiovascular consequences of weaning. An educational session on central venous access and monitoring was held also as well as several other competency based tutorials. In addition, a postgraduate course was provided again this year, this time on the subject of acute circulatory failure. Next year, in Amsterdam, we hope to have sessions looking at the physiology and tools we have to direct volume therapy, the management of the circulation in ARDS, resuscitation of the circulation in septic shock amongst other topics.
Last year we ran a postgraduate course on echocardiography. This was a very 'hands-on' course with the aims of teaching beginners to echocardiography the basics of the technique for haemodynamic assessment. This course was very successful and we intend to run it again. Gorazd Voga is planning the next course, which hopefully will be held in the coming years. Anyone interested in teaching or attending the course would be more than welcome. Please contact the Brussels office for more information.
We are interested in setting up a research group to this Section. The leadership of this group will be directed by Jan Poelaert. The group hopes to able to first review the demographic differences between countries in the way we monitor and support the circulation. We would hope to be able to use this to promote future interventional studies. Anyone interested in helping with the work of the Section or getting involved with the research interests of the Section can either contact myself directly or through the Brussels office. Otherwise we encourage you to participate in the Section meetings and will be delighted to welcome you in Amsterdam next year.
