THE ESICM DIVISION OF SCIENTIFIC AFFAIRS

 

The Division of Scientific Affairs   has a crucial role to represent the ESICM in the intensive care community. Its main role is to advance and develop the ESICM scientific activities in relation with our Annual Congress and in fostering research. 


The Division of Scientific Affairs  includes two Committees

 

  • the Congress Committee
  • the Research Committee

 


 

The Congress Committee

is led by Jean-Daniel Chiche (Paris, France). The chair of the Congress Committee is the Chair of the Division of Scientific Affairs.

Aims and Missions 

 

The Congress Committee is responsible for the preparation and presentation of the ESICM Annual Congress, including its educational tracks composed of the Post-graduate courses, the Educational sessions, and the newly introduced Competency training sessions(in co-operation with the Education and Training Committee). The main job of the Congress Committee is to coordinate the proposals and activities of the Sections and their Research groups as well as of the other members. It is also responsible for the scientific design and content of other meetings organised jointly with other Associations, such as the Consensus conferences  and the Summer conferences.

 

Brussels Office 

 

The Congress Committee is in close relationship with the Brussels Office staff that is responsible for the daily work related to the organisation of the meeting activities of the Society; in particular the Congress Manager and the Congress Assistant.  

 


 

The Research Committee

 

is led by Daniel De Backer from Brussels, Belgium. The Chair of the Research Committee is the Deputy chair of the Division of Scientific Affairs

 


 

The Research Committee is composed of

 

  • the Sections representatives elected or nominated by the voting members of each Section
  • the Chair of the Congress Committee
  • the Chair of the Education and Training Committee
  • the N&AHP Committee representative
  • other Committee chairs, project leaders, or Officers as appropriate.

 

Aims and Missions

 

The Research Committee is in charge of coordinating or advising on all research activities of the Society, be it the Section's Working Groups, the Surviving Sepsis Campaign, etc. It is most of all responsible for running the ECCRN, the European Critical care Research Network. This network of projects is a platform whereby the ESICM endorses or supports a number of projects which it believes are of value for the progress of knowledge in intensive care medicine. Projects which would like to be endorsed or supported by the Society may contact the ESICM Office to receive the ECCRN package (rules and application form).

 

Brussels Office

 

The Research Committee is in close relationship with the Brussels Office staff who is responsible for the daily work related to the research activities of the Society, in particular Nathalie Mathy, Peggy Hardy and Elise Maquestiaux.
